Mineral diagnostics

Offline reference. Field tests: hardness (fingernail 2.5, copper coin 3.5, knife/glass 5.5, steel file 6.5), streak on unglazed tile, HCl fizz for carbonates, magnetism, UV for scheelite.

Data & tools

—
Field Geo v1 · everything is stored on this phone only. Export at the end of each day as a backup — iOS can clear web-app data if the app is unused for weeks.

Download offline basemap

Frame the area you need on the map first (pan & zoom), then download. Tiles are saved on this phone so the map works with no signal — anywhere in the world. Do it on wifi.

Drill holes & sections

One workbook with collar / survey / assay sheets — each sheet is auto-assigned by its columns. Or load individual CSVs:
Collars: hole, east/north (or lat/lon), RL, depth, dip, az. Survey: hole, depth, dip, az. Assays: hole, from, to, element columns.
Block model: x,y,z + value columns. UBC: pick mesh then model. Leapfrog/Geosoft/GOCAD: export to block-model CSV. In 3D, slice to ±20–100 m and spin with your finger; colour by grade or geophysics value.

Public data

In ArcGIS Pro: right-click the layer → Data → Export Features (choose GeoJSON), or Layer to KML. Then import it here (same as Layers → Add layer). Tenements, bores, geology — anything.
Granted (purple) + under application (orange dashed). Frame your ground on the map first, then tap a state:
NT* has no live per-view service — the button downloads the whole territory once and keeps it offline. If the server blocks it, it opens the NT download page so you can save the KML and Import it.
Overseas (Europe, Africa, anywhere): there's no single world service, but the same method works for any country's ArcGIS service — paste its URL under Advanced below. Not every country publishes one; KML export always works too.
Advanced: try a live service (often blocked)
Only works for the rare service that allows app access. If it fails, use the import above — or set a CORS proxy at the bottom.
Opens a web search for that country's mining-tenement map service. From the results, copy an ArcGIS service URL (ends in /MapServer/0 or /FeatureServer/0) and paste it below, then Fetch.

Pinned message

Share & sync

Shows on your pinned messages so the crew know who sent what.
Packages everything into one file — send it by AirDrop when you're near each other, by satellite messenger, or email/Dropbox/WhatsApp in signal. The other person imports it and it merges with theirs.

Geochem targeting

Scores use percentile ranks across the chosen pathfinders, so they're robust to units and outliers. Results map as graduated symbols; rebuild anytime.

How to use Field Geo

That row is your toolbar. From left: Point (record a geology observation), Track (record where you walk), Sketch (draw on the map), Photo (quick photo here), Chat (pin a message), Minerals (ID reference), More (everything else). The three buttons on the right edge of the map are, top to bottom: keep screen awake, Layers, and find my location (the circle target).
Tap = one quick touch. Press and hold = touch and keep your finger down for a second. Drag = touch and slide. Pinch = two fingers moving apart/together to zoom.
Tap the target circle (bottom right). The blue dot is you. The band across the top shows your coordinates (grid and lat/long).
① Tap Point (bottom left). A cross appears — you're in "drop" mode.
② Tap the spot on the map.
③ Pick a symbol (bedding, fault, outcrop, a direction arrow, etc.).
④ For a reading, type the strike/dip or bearing — or tap Read phone compass and point the top of the phone the right way.
⑤ Add a label, rock type, notes and photos.
⑥ Tap Save point. Your symbol appears on the map.
In a point (or chat), tap Camera to take a new photo, or Library to pick one already on your phone. Add as many as you like.
Tap the symbol on the map. A little card shows everything you recorded, including the photos — tap a photo to see it full-screen. Tap the × to close. (Delete is on that card too.)
Tap Chat, type your message (and add a photo if you want), tap Pin message. It drops a 💬 at your location with your name and the time. This is how you leave notes for your crew — tap the 💬 to read it. Set your name under More → Share & sync.
Press and hold anywhere on the map to pin a natural observation (bird, insect, water bore, etc.) with a photo.
A point's shape is the symbol you pick; its colour is the swatch row just below. Sketch lets you choose a colour and width and draw either a Line or a filled Area (polygon). To recolour a sketch or an imported layer later, open Layers and tap the 🎨 next to it.
Tap Layers (middle button, right side). There you can change the background map, fade a terrain overlay, bring in your own maps (export KML or GeoJSON from Esri/ArcGIS and tap Add layer), or lay a picture over the map. Each layer has an on/off switch and a fade slider. Tap any imported shape to read what it is (rock unit, etc.).
Move the map so your ground is on screen. Tap Layers → Download basemap for offline use, choose how much detail, tap Download this area. Now that ground shows even with no phone signal. Do this before you head out.
More → Share & sync → Share points, chat & photos. It makes one file. Send it however you can — AirDrop when you're standing together, or satellite messenger / email / WhatsApp when you have signal. The other person opens Import a bundle and your points and messages merge into theirs. (Nobody sees your data unless you send it.)
More → Export bundle (.zip) saves all your points, tracks and photos as files you can drop into ArcGIS or Dropbox. Do this daily — it's your backup.
More → Drill holes & sections. Load one Excel file (or collar/survey/assay CSVs), tap Plot, then make a cross-section or Open 3D slab view and spin it with your finger. This is advanced — skip it if you don't need it.
A group is invitation only. You create one, send an invite, and only people with that invite can see it. Every message is also a pin on the map, so you see who said what and where. Messages are locked (encrypted) — nobody outside the group can read them, not even the people running the servers.

To use a group someone invited you to: More → Share & sync → Join with an invite code → paste the code they sent. Done — their pins start arriving when you have signal.
To start a group you need a free "letterbox" on the internet. It takes about 5 minutes, once. Your crew who just join don't do any of this — the invite carries everything.

1. On a computer, go to supabase.com and sign up (free).
2. Click New project. Give it any name and a database password (save it). Wait ~2 min for it to finish.
3. Left menu → SQL Editor → paste the block below → Run:
create table fieldgeo (id text primary key, gid text, author text, lat float8, lon float8, updated timestamptz default now(), cipher text, iv text, media jsonb); alter table fieldgeo enable row level security; create policy anon_all on fieldgeo for all to anon using (true) with check (true); insert into storage.buckets (id,name, public) values ('media','media',true); create policy media_all on storage.objects for all to anon using (bucket_id='media') with check (bucket_id='media'); 4. Left menu → Project Settings → API. Copy the Project URL and the anon public key.
5. In the app: More → Share & sync → paste those two into the boxes → Create a group → name it.
6. Tap Invite someone and send the code to your crew (message, AirDrop, email). They paste it into Join — and they're in.

Your data lives in your Supabase, encrypted. The free tier is plenty for a crew; very large videos use up storage faster.
Delete the app icon from your home screen, open the page again in Safari, and re-add it (Share → Add to Home Screen). That clears any stuck data. Your records are in your last export bundle — that's why the daily backup matters.
